Scale

The Scale group on the Start tab is used to quickly set the current map scale. After you set a value, iXGIS adjusts the map resolution based on the scale value, which changes the map zoom level.

astuce

Map scale is configured independently in Map production mode and Project mode.

How to Use

  1. Open Start > Scale.
  2. Select a common scale from the drop-down list, such as 1:10000.
  3. The map automatically zooms to the corresponding scale.

Custom Scale

You can also enter a custom scale directly in the drop-down box. The required format is:

  • 1:number, such as 1:25000
attention

If the input does not match the 1:number format, iXGIS displays the message "Invalid format" and restores the last valid scale.

Common Scale Reference

The following table lists typical scale ranges for common browsing and map production scenarios. Use them as general references. In practice, choose a scale based on data accuracy, display purpose, and the coordinate system, especially the scale variation of Web Mercator at different latitudes.

ScenarioTypical scale rangeDescription
Continent/global overview1:20,000,000 to 1:200,000,000Used for broad overview maps. Suitable for small-scale data such as national boundaries and major city points.
Country1:2,000,000 to 1:20,000,000Suitable for nationwide thematic maps, major transportation networks, and administrative divisions.
Province, autonomous region, or municipality1:250,000 to 1:5,000,000Suitable for province-level thematic maps, city distribution, and major infrastructure.
City or prefecture-level area1:25,000 to 1:500,000Suitable for city-level overviews, road networks, functional zones, and land-use types.
County or district1:5,000 to 1:100,000Suitable for more detailed management and analysis. Can show blocks, river networks, and parcel boundaries.
Project site, such as a park, plant, or parcel1:500 to 1:10,000Common project drawing scales include 1:500, 1:1000, 1:2000, and 1:5000. Suitable for detailed representation of redline boundaries, pipelines, and facility layouts.
astuce

Scale is a display concept. The same dataset may reveal insufficient accuracy at larger scales, such as jagged boundaries or positional offsets. For detailed representation, use a higher-accuracy data source first.

Notes

  • Scale is related to the map coordinate system and units. The conversion between scale and resolution may vary across coordinate systems.
  • Setting the scale is a display and browsing operation. It does not modify layer data.
